A Call for Authors

Thanks to your support, UK Column now has everything necessary in place to expand significantly our output of articles. Alex Thomson has taken on the role of Commissioning Editor and is keen to have a balance of good writers in all subject areas. Consequently, we are looking for established writers of news, commentary and analysis in the areas listed below. We are first and foremost asking you, our subscribers, for your own tips for good writers in these domains, ideally together with a sample of their work.

For all of these areas, please bear in mind that as we are the UK Column, we will initially be prioritising authors with a focus on the British Isles, but that shouldn't stop you from suggesting anyone from elsewhere. It should go without saying that while UK Column writers are not required to reflect any given philosophy or view of their subject matter, they are expected to write with common sense and not to be heavy on speculation.

Health: we are specifically looking for writers within the healthcare professions, or who have recently left healthcare, who can calmly set out for the lay reader what the effects of local, national and international policy are on the care given to patients. We are not eager to promote controversialism over the causes of pathology, precisely because we do not take an editorial line on the matter, so articles are certainly welcome to discuss varying convictions on this issue but should not be primarily driven by converting readers to a given position.

Education: we are particularly looking for writers with first-hand knowledge of the situation at schools, colleges and universities, but not to the exclusion of educational theory writers who can grab the interest of regular readers. Horror stories should not be the substance of writing on this topic for UK Column, though they have their place illustratively.

Policing: This is not a standalone reporting area for UK Column but part of the wider topic of Law, Crime, Justice and Constitution. However, it is specifically police writers that we would like to expand, ideally by working with whistleblowers or recent former police.

Environment & Farming: our top priority here is authoritative reporting and analysis of efforts to reduce Britain's (and other countries') self-sufficiency in natural foodstuffs, through governmental financial incentives and bureaucracy.

Culture & Media: here, we wish to extend our coverage of the censorship agenda and also to develop a good spread of competent reviewers and commentators on each medium of the arts (notably literature, music, the visual arts and the performing arts, including at local community level) who do not go along with the anti-human, obscurantist bent of the present-day Western élite approach to the arts. Whistleblowers and dissidents from mainstream journalism are highly welcome.

Science, Engineering & Technology: we would be especially glad to develop relationships with writers in this domain, particularly from the British Isles, who take the old common-sense view that the exact sciences should uplift man in body and mind, that those involved in the exact sciences should not be cogs in a machine but first-principles thinkers, and that infrastructure should be a priority to achieve the kind of economic development that expands rather than shrinking our horizons.

If you know of a suitable writer with proven ability in reporting and/or commenting on the above topics, please first obtain their permission to share a sample of their work with a view to writing for UK Column, and then e-mail alex@ukcolumn.org with the tip. We are sure our subscribers will give us many invaluable leads this way that will enable us to be much more comprehensive in our written coverage.
